2015 Partners in Horn of Africa & Columbia Institute Gala

Alongside Partners in the Horn of Africa, we held our first gala fundraiser on November 30, 2015 at the Ukranian Cultural Centre in Vancouver. The evening program included a reception, Ethiopian buffet dinner, speed painting, and silent auction, alongside updates on the work and impact of the Columbia Institute and Partners in the Horn of Africa. Ken Georgettti, President Emeritus of the Canadian Labour Congress will emcee the event. Proceeds raised at event to support sustainable community development, education, and leadership building projects in Canada and Ethiopia. View photos here.

2013 Webinar: Tools for Fair Taxation

Tools for Fair Taxation, with economist and CCPA research associate Hugh Mackenzie. 

Hugh Mackenzie is principal in an economic consulting business, Hugh Mackenzie and Associates, based in Toronto. He has worked for over 35 years in a variety of capacities related to public policy development in the trade union movement, the private sector, and at all three levels of government.

He is a Research Associate of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. 

He is a regular contributor to CCPA and other publications on provincial budgetary issues in general and the funding of elementary and secondary education in particular. He was Executive Director of the Ontario Fair Tax Commission from 1991 to 1994. In that capacity, he was the author of the Commission’s work on education finance and local government finance. 

He was a founding board member of People for Education.

2012 Green Jobs BC Conference: Good Jobs for a Green Future

The conference will bring together 200-300 British Columbians from across the Labour and Environmental movements, as well business, First Nations, community, government, and other sectors interested in building a strong green economy. Through a combination of panel discussions, educational seminars, and plenary speakers, participants will deepen their understanding of the issues, and be part of mapping out a green jobs plan for the province.
